Challenge # 5 - Snowboard featuring the Half Pipe

Start Date: 5/1/22

End Date: 5/28/22

Point Submission Due: Thursday 6/2/22

Snowboarding is a winter Olympic sport that combines elements of surfing, skateboarding and skiing. Both men's and women's snowboarding made their Olympic debut at the Nagano games in 1998. Four years later, in Salt Lake City, the half pipe competition was added to the games. The half pipe is the most popular competition in snowboarding. It is played on a U-shaped ramp that is in the shape of a half-cylinder. The most decorated half pipe snowboarder in the world is American Shaun White - "The Flying Tomato". Over the course of his Olympic career, White won 3 gold medals.

The focus for this challenge will be on the word "half", or in the case of geocaching, .5. You will need to find traditional or virtual caches that have a difficulty (D) rating of the following: 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 or 4.5. The higher the D rating, the more points you will receive for the find.

In terms of hiding, we will be focused only on traditional hides that have a D rating of 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 or 4.5. The T rating does not factor in for this challenge.

Challenge: Find any Virtual or Traditional cache with a D rating ending in .5. You can earn a bonus of 2 points for each qualifying Virtual or Traditional cache found that has over 50 or more favorite points.

Scoring:

  • D level 1.5 = 1 point
  • D level 2.5 = 2 points
  • D level 3.5 = 3 points
  • D level 4.5 = 4 points

Hide a qualifying cache = 25 pts per cache with a limit of four. Please be respectful of the reviewers and do not wait until the end of the challenge period to submit your hides. Just a reminder, if you hide a cache after 5/21/22, it might not be published before the end of the challenge period. Thank you!

For a hidden cache to qualify, it must be a Traditional cache that has a D level of 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 or 4.5.  We decided to add a little bit of a twist. Shaun White was well known for tricks that he invented. One of the most famous was the McTwist. So for your cache to qualify, we thought it would be fun and creative for you to use one of Shaun White's nicknames in your title. You don't have to use the whole nickname, just one of the following words:

  • Future
  • Boy
  • Flying
  • Tomato
  • Animal
  • Red
  • Zeppelin
  • Egg

The cache must publish during the challenge period (5/1/22 to 5/28/22). Please provide the GC code for verification.
