Our October 2003 Event Cache Page

Meeting notes: October 11, 2003

Grey skies didn?t keep many folks away today!

Our M.C., mtn-man, greeted a big crowd of ?cachers. Lots of new members, too. First order of business was to cover the upcoming Second Annual GGA Challenge Event.

This year we will be playing ?Five Cache Stud? and there are two ways to win: ?Highest Poker Hand?, and ?Highest Total? (card count). Good balance of geocaching skill and chance in this year?s ?Challenge.?

We talked about ?Geocoins,? the really pretty coins that work the same as Travel Bugs, except they use no clever character or dog tags, other than themselves, to work their way around the caches. Do be careful to not just treat them as a nice cache prize. They need to be logged on Geocaching.com.

Then was: Upcoming action items.

First off, and before 10/18/03 is to vote at the GGA Steering Committee Vote of Confidence. It is all explained on the link.

Second, we all need to submit pictures for the 2004 GGA Calendar. AllenLacy was kidded about his excellent pictures when Yo-yo Man got the rest of the kidding about his plethora of submissions!

Third, the GGA Outstanding Cache nominations are coming up. A forum will be started soon for members to nominate the various caches we love in the various categories.

After the break, we discussed an idea for a theme cache based around MP3 items. ~erik~ and mtn-man noted that caches with copyrighted materials would not be approved. Lesson: We should be alert to the laws and to the geocaching rules.

This led to a broader discussion about the rules and guidelines of placing and logging caches. Come to the meetings to be in on these important bits of information!

We broke the meeting and everyone either went off searching for caches, or hung around trading stories and helpful information.
