Meeting notes: May 4, 2002
Greetings to all.
On May 4, the Georgia Geocachers Association (GGA) had their twelfth meeting. On this occasion, we met under damp conditions after a night of rainfall at Rhyne Park in Cobb county or should I say "after a dark and stormy night?" Whatever?
Participation was light, with one new attendee and nine diehards who have attended at least one previous meeting.
A major part of the meeting was a briefing provided by Da Rebel, Ed Handler, who is serving as organizer of the First Annual GGA Challenge Event. The briefing can be viewed at the following web page:

Regarding the challenge event, there is a of poll where we are asking members to respond:

We are also asking everyone to take a look at the "Headcount" thread under the Geocaching in Georgia forum on EZBoard. We need to know how many people to plan for so we will have adequate food, refreshments and prizes. Please indicate your interest at the following link:

The event planning committee asked the GGA steering committee to provide input on the event rules. Anyone with suggestions or recommendations, either of the "make sure you do this" or "make sure you don't do that" variety, is encouraged to forward your input to any steering committee member.
In addition to the work on the challenge event, erik88l-r gave an update on the status of our discussions with the Georgia State Parks. Erik has had continued discussions with Larry Blankenship, who has drafted a proposal and has had it under review with the park rangers. It has become necessary for Larry to also have the proposal reviewed by the US Army Corps of Engineers, since several Georgia State Parks sites are actually leased from the COE. As written, the proposal allows geocaching activity in the parks under some restrictions. As soon as we have approval, the guidelines or restrictions will be posted on the EZBoard forums.
Before closing the meeting, we had a drawing for the door prizes donated by Da Rebel and Johnnie Lacy. Thanks, Ed and Johnnie.
Happy geocaching! Hope to see all of you again on June 8, if not before.
-Brad
